Troubleshooting Image Regions (Handwriting Recognition)

Image regions are used to detect handwriting and an Image Clip is used to take a snapshot of the handwriting so that you can report on it. Sometimes if the handwriting is light or the Image region is very large, Remark Office OMR may not be able to pick up the handwriting using the default settings.

You can compensate for these problems by doing any of the following:

  1. Lower the Recognition Threshold for the individual region in the template, located in the Advanced Region/Region Item Properties section of the Properties - Image Region window.
  2. Use the Recognition Threshold Override to globally lower the Recognition Threshold for all Image fields (located under Tools|Preferences|Recognition).
  3. Scan the forms at a darker brightness setting, sometimes called threshold, on your scanner. By making the handwriting darker, it may be easier for Remark Office OMR to see the handwriting on the image.
  4. Make the Image region smaller. Only capture where you expect handwriting. You may want to design your form so that respondents know exactly where to write by placing a box around the area in which you expect them to write.
