Troubleshooting Skewed and Speckled Forms

Remark Office OMR includes deskew and despeckle options to help with recognition of forms that might be crooked (skewed) or have specks on them (typically from poor photocopying, a dirty scanner or using shading on the form).

To take advantage of these features do the following:

  1. If reading from a scanner, in TOOLS|Scanner Properties, locate the section for Image Processing Options. Check the boxes for Deskew image or Despeckle Images (or both) depending on your needs. If using Despeckle, determine through experimentation what maximum size speckles to remedy.
  2. If reading images you already scanned, in TOOLS|Recognition Settings|Default Settings|Image Processing mark the boxes for Deskew and Dspeckle. (Note that you can also set these options for a single template by choosing TOOLS|Recognition Settings|Template Settings|Image Processing.)
  3. Continue to scan or process your images to optimize your form recognition. With both skewing and speckling, there will be a point beyond which the software is unable to fix the problem. Make sure you keep your scanner maintained and follow our form design best practices.
